Moldovan capital opens international festival of puppet theatres

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ – Twenty – two groups of puppet theatre actors from eight states (Moldova, Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia and Ukraine) participate in the 10th issue of the International Puppet Festival (FIP): Sub caciula lui Guguta (Under the cap of Guguta), which was opened today until 22 April in Chisinau municipality.  

The event is organised by the Municipal Puppet Theatre Guguta (TMPG) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), Culture Department of Chisinau municipality (DCC) etc.

At inauguration ceremony, artistic director of TMPG, Gabriela Lungu, has mentioned that the 10th issue of the Festival is an anniversary and will be a note 10. According to the cited source, thanks to this festival, the children from The Republic of Moldova, of any nationality, has the rare opportunity to watch shows in their mother tongue, and the Theatre Guguta has the noble mission to promote the puppet art of our country at the international level.  

"These connections, which are made between theatres in different countries, must remain today, as they have been preserved so far. And it is very important, because we here meet, here we grow, we here learn from each other. There are international theatres, theatres that have different styles, different stories, different traditions, and here we enjoy each other and here we share to each other fine art," said the festival artistic director.

Attending the event, Secretary of State for Culture, Andrei Chistol, has specified for agency that MECC is already the second year partner at this festival. "I am glad that we are at the 10th issue, as well as the fact that there are participants from more states, and it indicates a responsibility, which the director of the festival leads, as well as the great interest of the children for shows, and we are next to such institutions. Even if it is a municipal theatre, we want to support the theatrical movement in Moldova and we will continue to support it with our financial contributions to the organisation of this festival," said the official.

In the context, the writer Emilian Galaicu – Paun said that he came to this festival because, being a member of the jury at the Theatrical Union Awards Gala 2019, already noted the quality of this theatre, the joy of playing, improvising, giving everything on stage.

The festival ends on 22 April with the award ceremony. The performances will be appreciated by a jury led by the actor and director Tom Hogea, a professor at the National University of Arts George Enescu in Iasi, Romania.
