Monument to hero dead in Transnistria War unveiled in north Moldova district

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - A monument to Mihail Starsii, a local resident of the Iorjnita village, north Soroca district, who died on battlefield for the independence and territorial integrity of Moldova in 1992, was unveiled in this settlement with military honours on 8 May. The event took place in the presence of local authorities, villagers and more fighters.   
 
„Last time, his parents saw Mihail Starsii on the Whitsun Day in 1992, when he was home and then returned to war and afterwards he was reported missed. He was reburied in his native village Iorjnita as late as after seven years,” sources of the Soroca local council said.   

The monument to Mihail Starsii was erected in the centre of the Iorjnita village, with the support of the Soroca local council, council of the Cosauti commune and personally of the Soroca district head, Ghenadie Muntean.  

„On 9 May, we will commemorate the heroes who fell in the World War II; yet, we should not forget also the heroes of our days, who wanted to defend their land and country. Mihail Starsii is a pride for the Soroca district residents, but also a grief of the nation, which the next generations must remember,” Ghenadie Muntean stressed.

Following the unveiling of the monument to Mihail Starsii, the participants in the event laid flowers also at the monument of the heroes who died on battlefields in the World War II, placed nearby the monument inaugurated.
