Writer born in Moldova gets prize at European contest

Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - The novel titled, Grădina de sticlă (The Glass Garden), published at the Chisinau-based Cartier publishing house in 2018 and signed by Tatiana Tibuleac, born in Moldova, who is presently settled in France, has been awarded the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL) 2019.   

The European Union Prize for Literature has been awarded to young contemporary writers from emerging literatures (the countries selected by rotation for participation in the EUPL competition) starting from 2009. The prize is coordinated by a consortium made up of the European and International Booksellers Federation (EIBF), European Writers' Council (EWC) and Federation of European Publishers (FEP). The consortium sets up national juries, the role of which is to nominate the authors put forward for being awarded prizes. The members of the juries are nominated by the national organizations members of the EUPL consortium from each of the participating countries. The prize costs 5,000 euros.

Three Romanian writers have been rewarded with this prize so far: Claudiu Mihail Florian (2016) for the book titled, Vârstele jocului. Strada Cetăţii (The Ages of Game. The Fortress Street) (Polirom publishing house), Ioana Parvulescu (2013) for Viaţa începe vineri (The Life Starts on Friday) (Humanitas publishing house) and Răzvan Rădulescu (2010) for the book, Teodosie cel Mic (Theodosius the Young) (Polirom publishing house). This year, the countries participating for the prize were: Austria, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

Tatiana Tibuleac was born in Chisinau on 15 October 2018. She graduated from the Iulia Hasdeu lyceum from Chisinau and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the Moldovan State University (USM). Tibuleac became known to the wide public in 1995, when she initiated the column Povești adevărate (True Stories) in the Flux daily newspaper. Beginning with 1999, Tatiana Tibuleac was member of the team of PRO TV Chisinau as reporter, editor and news presenter. At present, Tibuleac lives in Paris, where she works in the audiovisual sector.     

Tatiana Tibuleac debuted with the volume Fabule moderne (Modern Fables), Urma Ta (Your Track) publishing house, Chisinau, 2014. Her second book titled, Vara în care mama a avut ochii verzi (The summer when mother had green eyes), Cartier publishing house (2017), was awarded the Prize of Moldova’s Writers Union (2017), prize of the Observator Cultural (Cultural Observer) magazine and the prize Observator Lyceum (2018). The novel was published in French and in Spanish.  The Glass Garden is the second novel by Tatiana Tibuleac, published in two editions already, in an overall number of 8,000 copies.
