Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ – The rainfalls of recent period have determined the prolongation of campaign for the harvest of cereals of group I. The data from the territory show that, in late July, it has been harvested over 95 per cent of the total area of wheat in Moldova, that constitutes about 337 thousand ha and 98 per cent of the area of 46.7 thousand ha of autumn barley, the ministry of agriculture, regional development and environment’s (MADRM) information and media communication service has reported has informed.

Interviewed by agency, senior consultant of the MADRM's department of production, processing and regulation policies of the quality of vegetable products, Marin Grama, has said that the harvest of spring barley is nearing coming to the end, and that it has been collected at present in the amount of 98 per cent out of cultivated 12.2 thousand ha.

According to Grama, up to the date, the volume of global production is about 1.1 million tonnes of wheat, and barley – 181 thousand tonnes.

"As far as the average harvest per country is concerned, the best situation remains in the northern region, where it is an average of 04 tonnes/ha in wheat. Smaller harvests have been recorded in the districts of the centre (3.2 tonnes/ha) and south, where the average is 2.8 tonnes/ha. The same is true of barley: in the north – 3.77 tonnes/ha and centre/south – 2.57 tonnes/ha and in the south – 2.8 tonnes/ha. Thus, the average crop per country is: wheat around 3.2 tonnes/ha, almost equivalent to the average of recent 05 years; for barley – 3.6 tonnes/ha, with 0.23 tonnes/ha more than the average of recent 05 years”, estimated the specialist with reference to the data provided by district departments for agriculture and food.

The quoted source has also informed that the harvesting of dried pea has been completed and harvesting of the autumn rapeseed has been almost completed. “The dried pea was harvested on an area of 13.4 thousand ha. The average crop constitutes 2.19 tonnes/ha, with 0.17 tonnes/ha more than the average of recent 05 years”, said consultant of MADRM.

“The autumn rapeseed was harvested on 35.5 thousand ha. The average crop per country constitutes 2.08 tonnes/ha, with 0.08 tonnes/ha more than the average crop per hectare of recent 05 years,” specified Marin Grama.

According to representative of MADRM, it will be completed the harvest of the cereals of group I throughout the territory of Moldova in upcoming days, and the preliminary data presented indicate a relatively fair harvest potential, despite the weather conditions of current agricultural season.

Also, the things are different with other agricultural crops. The torrential rainfalls and storms in late spring and early summer, drought in southern and central Moldova in recent weeks could affect maize and sunflower crops. The surfaces cultivated with these crops from the southern districts have also suffered from pests. The National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) has announced that, in Ist half of 2019, the plant production fell by 8.8 per cent compared to similar period of 2018.

The Independent Analytical Centre (CAI) Expert – Grup forecasts that in 2019 the added gross value in agricultural sector will increase relatively modest, by 1.8 per cent, and in 2020, under normal climatic conditions, the growth might constitute slightly over 4 per cent.

Also, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) anticipates for 2019 a relatively modest growth of agricultural sector, of almost 1.5 per cent, and subsequently a stabilisation of growth in range of 2.6 – 3.6 per cent. The relatively low growth rate of 2019 is explained by MEI by the fact that "previous years (especially 2016; 2017) were the most resultant of all the period of economic recovery, and achievement of a growth that would far exceed those performances is uncertain".
