UN has new Resident Coordinator in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/- Simon Springett is the newly appointed Resident Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) in Moldova, starting from 1October.

Simon Springett has 25 years of international experience in humanitarian activity and development. He will lead the Office of the Resident Coordinator whose purpose is to coordinate the efforts of the United Nations Country Team working in Moldova to ensure the provision of efficient assistance to boost the country's development in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Previously, Springett has served as Operations Director and deputy head for Response Operations within the UK's Department for International Development / Palladium. He served for five years as Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program and Representative of the UN Population Fund, concurrently, in the Republic of Mauritania and the Republic of Seychelles. Throughout his career, he has held key leadership positions within the international charity confederation, Oxfam.

The UN Resident Coordinator Office is responsible for implementing the UN reform package globally, which was made public by the UN Secretary General in 2018.

The UN Resident Coordinator in the country is the official representative of the Secretary-General and aims to join resident and non-resident UN agencies, funds and programs in order to improve the efficiency of country-level activities dedicated to achieving results, including through the UN Development Assistance Framework, redefined.

Earlier, Dafina Gercheva has served as UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova.
