Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - Parents or pupils guilty of acts of violence against teachers run the risk of getting fines or even being sentenced to imprisonment. The juridical commission for rules and immunities will propose a draft law to this end to parliament for approval.
Under the draft, the violence acts against teachers will be described as hooliganism acts and will be punished with fines up to 68,000 lei or up to five years of imprisonment.
At the same time, the not so serious hooliganism actions, i.e. the insulting accosting of teachers in public places, will be punished with fines worth up to 3,000 lei or non-remunerated labour for the benefit of the community of up to 60 hours.
Teachers will be obliged to immediately communicate about any suspect or confirmed case of abuse, physical or verbal violence against them or the colleagues on behalf of pupils, students, parents and other people. At the same time, the pupils and parents will be obliged to show respect towards teachers, not to allow cases of violence, inform about any suspect or confirmed case of violence.
The initiative’s authors say that the draft was worked out after, in the last period, teachers had signaled numerous cases of violence and threats at education institutions, including against teachers.
The draft is to be considered by the parliament.
