Premier summons meeting to consider situation at Railway of Moldova enterprise

Chisinau, 3 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today summoned to a meeting the leadership of the state enterprise, The Railway of Moldova (CFM), in order to consider the company’s economic situation. Attending the event were representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry and decision-makers of the prime minister’s office.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the CFM director general, Adrian Onceanu, informed the PM about the sales of the company in January and February 2020, worth 78.4 million lei and 86.4 million lei, respectively. In the first two months of this year, the production expenses amounted to 76.7 million lei and 74.2 million lei, respectively. The salary debts at some CFM subdivisions, existing n December 2019, have been paid off. Resources were invested in instruments and specialized clothing, with the goal to enhance the efficiency of the employees and their faithfulness to the company.  

The assessment of technical bids submitted for the rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure on the segment Bender-Giurgiulesti, with a length of 233 km, is underway. The financing is provided by the consortium European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-European Investment Bank (EIB). In the next stage, the banks’ experts will assess the economic bids and afterwards the contract will be signed. Estimated in June 2020, till late next July at the latest, 12 locomotives will be delivered, contracted through the project financed by the EBRD-EIB consortium.      

Ion Chicu asked the CFM head to focus on the carrying out of the projects financed by the development partners, to improve the competitiveness of CFM’s services, implement mechanisms of control and optimization of expenses and production and to efficiently fight the fuel thefts.

Presently, more than 6,500 people are employed at CFM and the enterprise administrates about 1,800 km of railways.
