Moldovan PM meets WHO representative in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/- Today, Prime Minister Ion Chicu had a discussion with the head of the World Health Organization's office in Moldova, Igor Pocanevici, to approach the epidemiological situation in Moldova and the region. Attending the event was Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

He addressed the steps taken by the authorities to manage the evolution of the epidemiological situation. "We focus on providing the necessary support to increase the capacity of the medical system. It is important to provide hospitals with all necessary equipment and increase the capacity for mass testing of citizens," he said.

The WHO head reiterated willingness to support the government's efforts during the difficult period, and to provide full support in managing the epidemiological situation.

In this context, the sides also referred to the need to actively promote information campaigns for citizens in order to comply with protection measures. At the same time, it was mentioned about the application of the necessary measures on election day. The authorities will take all necessary measures to ensure that citizens can exercise their right to vote in complete safety.

Chicu informed the WHO official that at the next cabinet meeting the decision to allocate financial resources for the purchase of 3 million protective masks will be approved, which will be handed to each voter, participating in the election on November 1 and November 15 (if necessary). This will be provided by the government to increase the degree of epidemiological protection of citizens and to help ensure an increased turnout.

The sides agreed they will further coordinate activities aimed at mitigating the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as other actions in the public health.
