Moldovan government to continue coming up with measures to back business

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today participated in an online meeting with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham). The participants in the event discussed a string of fiscal measures for 2021, meant to improve the business environment, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The PM thanked the business representatives for the dialogue opened and the measures undertaken on the period of the pandemic.  

„I thank for all the support you have provided on this extremely difficult period. No matter the problems, people worked, paid taxes and they did so, that the government is able to pay salaries, pensions and continues financing investment projects,’’ Ion Chicu said.  

At the meeting, the AmCham representatives came up with a string of proposals to the government, which provide for the adjusting of fiscal practices to the international ones and ensuring predictability measures. They referred also to establishing a fiscal calendar on excise duties, which see the combating of COVID-19, clearing up the way the non-residents work, as well about the e-invoice, etc.     

Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that, in 2021, the government was set to come up with clear-cut proposal on supporting the business environment from Moldova.

„We will further take measures on backing the business. We intend to reimburse the value added tax (VAT) accumulated in Moldova and at this stage we already subsidize the salary payments. We also plan to compensate the interest on the loans for farmers. It is quite important that, for 2021-2022, the cabinet continues to invest in infrastructure and we will make capital social investments. The government’s attention will be focused on strengthening the medical system and we will not at all come up with measures restricting the economy,’’ the PM stressed.     

The state secretary at the Finance Ministry, Dorel Noroc, touched upon several measures part of the government’s fiscal policy for 2021-2023. It is about the diminution of costs of economic agents through increasing the number of people able to work, especially young people of Moldova and from abroad. The people who lost their jobs starting from 17 March 2020 will have priority. Besides, the employers who are to employ people with disabilities will benefit from 100 per cent subsidization of salary payments.   

The official also said that progress was made in terms of liquidating the economic police. In this respect, a working group was set up at the level of the State Fiscal Service and beginning with 1 January 2021, this group will take over the duties of the economic police.  

In the end, the members of the American Chamber of Commerce thanked the prime minister for opportunity to discuss the problems faced by entrepreneurs and identify solutions to overcome them.
