Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The promotion of eco-innovations at small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Moldova was tackled at a workshop held today. Attending the event were representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI), Organization for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM), public authorities, business environment, academic environment and development partners.

„The promotion of good practices of technological transfer and innovation affairs, as well as the familiarization with the case studies on the present eco-innovation in the European Union member states will contribute to strengthening the capacities in the field of Moldovan CMEs’ eco-innovations and will allow taking over the best practices. The eco-innovation can be the solution, which will inevitably lead to making progress in achieving the goal of sustainable economic development,’’ a head of directorate at MEI, Vasile Vulpe, said.

According to the MEI representative, in accordance with the national report on the assessment of the performance of the green economy’s development, decision-makers found out that only three per cent of the innovations were implemented in practice in Moldova’s business sector. ‘’As compared to the average size in EU and the countries from the region, this is a quite low indicator and we believe that the launch of a process of promotion of eco-innovations nationally, which we witness at present, will change this tendency,’’ the quoted source said.

For her part, ODIMM director general Iulia Costin said that the implementation of eco-innovations in the work of small- and medium-sized enterprises represented one of the viable solutions to the adaptation to the difficult conditions and challenges emerged on the last period. ‘’The adaptation of eco-innovative  practices by enterprises will favour their development and will provide an enhanced potential to cope with the present competition pressure both inside the country and outside,’’ Costin noted.

The promotion of eco-innovations among SMEs represents one of the three stages of the SMES’ Greening Programme. It will provide Moldova with a string of opportunities to benefit from the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, as well as to achieve the goals provided for in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
