Over 2.5 million calls went to 112 service last year

Chisinau, 11 Feb. / MOLDPRES /- Over 2.5 million calls were made to the 112 Service last year, more than half of which were non-emergency calls, and about 30 percent of calls were for an ambulance. The data was made public today at a press conference by the leadership of the Service.

More than half of the recorded calls are mute calls, and about 18% are abusive calls. Another 10 percent of 112 calls are involuntary calls. Of the total number of requests, 112 - about 11 percent were targeted by the police, and almost 1% by firefighters.

More than 800,000 calls were made to the ambulance. Most of them targeted COVID-19 infection, followed by high blood pressure - 16%, other undiagnosed diseases - 12%, abdominal and back pain - 11%. Most ambulance calls came from Chisinau, followed by those from Balti, Cahul and Sangera.

Firefighters and police were asked most often in urban areas, most of the calls coming from the capital.

IGSU data show that, in 2021, there were 383 interventions of fire and rescue teams on false calls, and since the beginning of 2022 the employees of the institution have gone on 48 missions with false calls. The most frequent calls that are confirmed to be false are bomb alerts, suicide attempts or threats to throw empty.

February 11 is marked as the annual European Day of the Single Emergency Number 112. This service is available free of charge, non-stop, both through landlines and mobile phones, anywhere in the European Union, as well as in countries such as Albania, Georgia, Moldova, Iceland, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey.
