Patients sick with cystic fibrosis to benefit from new medicine for free in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The children and adults sick with cystic fibrosis will benefit, for free, from a new medicine and a medical device needed for its daily administering. A decision to this end was taken by the council for compensated medicines from the mandatory health insurances accounts.     

The preparation, with the international common denomination of dornase alfa, along with the nebulizer, will be distributed to all those 38 persons diagnosed with this rare disease. The concerned medicine will be delivered by the Mother and Child Institute, as the latter is provided with the necessary quantity through centralized public procurements. The annual estimated cost for the treatment of one person with this medicine is of over 100,000 lei.    

Dornase alfa contributes to the combating of the lung infections and improving functions of lungs in people sick with cystic fibrosis.  

The cystic fibrosis or mucoviscidosis represents a rare genetic disease, which shows itself through digestive problems, respiratory infections. Although the disease cannot be healed, therapies prevent the metabolic, infectious complications and improve patients’ quality of live.      

According to the Health Ministry, people of Moldova ill with cystic fibrosis benefit from three medicines for free, for which four million lei (200,000 euros) was allocated from the mandatory health insurances accounts in 2022.
