Chisinau, July 12. /MOLDPRES/- EURO-MED-REACT 2023 field exercise started today. It involves teams of rescuers from the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine, who during 36 hours, in day and night conditions will work for the liquidation of simulated disasters, such as fires, chemical accidents, traffic accidents with multiple victims.

It is carried out on July 12-13 in the town of Răzeni, Ialoveni district, in the base of operations of the Republican Training Center of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU). The field exercise is based on simulating the liquidation of exceptional situations conditioned by extreme weather conditions, which cause chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear accidents. The applications provide for the simulated activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism through which the Republic of Moldova requests external assistance.

In the evening of yesterday, 147 representatives of rescue teams from the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine arrived in our country. Participants will work with experts from the EU Civil Protection Team.

Thus, during the exercise, IGSU employees together with all the institutions responsible for managing crisis situations in the Republic of Moldova will exercise their response capabilities to liquidate the consequences of emergency situations, according to the established procedures. Also, during the exercise, tactical situations will be simulated in the liquidation of forest fires, the occurrence of fire in a residential block, the extraction of people stuck in vehicles following the collapse of a tunnel, as well as CBRN accidents at industrial sites and following a railway accident.

The exercise will be evaluated by international observers, who are part of the project management team, and the results of the final evaluation will facilitate the harmonization of response and crisis management procedures in the Republic of Moldova and the EU.

The EURO-MED-REACT project is an EU-funded initiative and aims to improve the capabilities of civil protection forces against CBRN threats and natural disasters and align Moldova and Ukraine to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
