Chisinau, July 18. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean had a discussion with a group of members of Association of former political prisoners and deportees, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The meeting focused on the problems faced by the more than 6,000 former political prisoners and survivors of the Soviet repressions, including the need to improve the financial situation and the way of life of the victims, by increasing the amount of the monthly benefit and the annual material aid.

The participants approached increasing national consciousness by introducing patriotic education into school curricula, by inaugurating a Museum of Memory and organizing actions to commemorate the victims of repression. The Association members appreciated the Bessarabians in Gulag exhibition, held in the Great National Assembly Square, in memory of the victims of the deportations.

"We need to review the lists of those who benefit from financial support and facilities, so that we can intervene to improve things. There are people who have suffered and we have to take care of them," said Recean.

The exhibition continues by July 30, and visitors benefit from the assistance of experts - guides, who explain, based on archival documents and victims' testimonies, what was the context, the extent, as well as the short-, medium- and long-term consequences of Stalinist deportations.

Thus, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the carriages installed in PMAN, visitors are awaited by the historians on duty - university professors, scientific researchers, specialists and inspectors from the National Archives Agency, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the Institute of Cultural Heritage and Moldova State University.
