Regional integrated service for victims of sexual violence to be piloted in Ungheni

Chisinau, July 19. /MOLDPRES/- First regional integrated service for victims of sexual violence will be piloted in Moldova. Government has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the regulatory framework for the service's activity, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The new social service will ensure complex and prompt intervention, focused on the needs of the victim of sexual violence.

The piloting of the service will be carried out over two years, within the Ungheni District Hospital, where victims of sexual violence from six districts will be served: Ungheni, Fălești, Sângerei, Călărași, Nisporeni and Telenești. According to the statistics by the public order bodies, during 2017-2022, 539 sexual crimes were reported in the respective districts, of which 241 were rapes.

Also, the Service will provide the opportunity for adult victims of sexual violence to benefit from medical, legal, psychological and social assistance in one location and will facilitate the process of acquiring evidence in the criminal process, including hearing the victims in safe conditions.

The specialized assistance services will be provided on the basis of collaboration agreements with the authorities and institutions within the six districts served: the Ungheni District Hospital, the territorial police inspectorates, the medico-legal sections, the General Prosecutor's Office, the territorial social assistance institutions, the territorial offices of the State-Guaranteed Legal Aid Council.

During the pilot period, the expenses necessary for the operation of the integrated service will be covered by UN Women Moldova.
