Consumers to be able to choose gas provider

12:18 | 20.07.2023 Category: Economic

Chisinau, July 20. /MOLDPRES/- Consumers will be able to choose their gas supplier. Parliament adopted today a draft law amending some normative acts, which regulate ensuring the separation and certification of natural gas transport operators.

The need to develop the project was determined by the legislative vacuum regarding the express basis for license withdrawal in case of non-compliance with the legal requirements on separation, independence and certification of the transport system operator. Thus, upon completion of separating the transport system, there will be several natural gas suppliers on the market, and consumers will be able to choose the gas supplier as they choose, for example, the supplier of internet services or other services.

The legislative initiative belongs to the Government. According to the authors, one of the main commitments of the Republic of Moldova in relation to the EU in the energy sector is to ensure the separation of operators of natural gas transport systems from vertically integrated enterprises that carry out the activity of production, distribution, storage or supply of natural gas.

At the same time, it will not be possible to suspend the decision to withdraw the license, as well as the decisions issued by ANRE in order to ensure the continuity of the natural gas transport activity. The exclusion of the possibility of suspending these ANRE decisions is necessary, including in order to prevent any possible blockages in the operation of the natural gas transport system or the cessation of gas transport activity.

The bill was voted in the second reading by 54 deputies.
