Moldovan parliament speaker, delegation of Lithuanian MPs discuss European integration agenda

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has discussed the European integration agenda with a delegation of the Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania, led by the head of the foreign affairs committee, Žygimantas Pavilionis. The parliament speaker thanked the delegation for the active political dialogue and the recent visits to Moldova by Lithuanian officials, which represents a support for the country in its aspirations of accession to EU, the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.    

„The support of the partner countries is crucial in the process of accession to the European Union. Lithuania is one of the most active backers of Moldova’s accession to EU,’’ Igor Grosu said. In the context, the parliament speaker thanked Lithuania for the significant assistance provided to Moldova, in the context of Russia’s war in Ukraine – a support due to which the country was able to cope with the crisis of refugees. Also, Moldova is on Lithuania’s priority list in the assistance for development as well. This year, Lithuania provides Moldova with assistance in such fields as agriculture, regional development, service of firemen and rescue, fighting the propaganda.     

The Moldovan parliament speaker informed the Lithuanian delegation that the authorities were firmly determined to open the negotiations with the European Union till the end of this year and for this, they punctually fulfill the European Commission’s recommendations. ‘’We are aware of the chance given to us to join the really democratic countries,’’ Igor Grosu said.
