Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The subject on the murder of the civic activist from the left bank of Dniester, Oleg Khorzhan, was discussed at a today’s meeting of the special parliamentary commission for monitoring and parliamentary control over the carrying out of Moldova’s reintegration policy. Attending the discussions were also Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, as well as representatives of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Prosecutor General’s Office and Intelligence and Security Service.
During the discussions, the head of the special parliamentary commission, Mihail Popsoi, said the competent authorities had unveiled the information held. ‘’We want the institutions in charge to investigate the case of Oleg Khorzhan and call to account the guilty persons. We are confident that Moldova’s authorities will do their utmost for this crime to be elucidated. More hypotheses are investigated at present. I urge everybody to treat this case objectively and not to work with unverified information,’’ Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihail Popsoi said.
„All power wielding institutions from Moldova took note. For our part, we are permanently communicating with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The local mission, the Joint Control Commission also made an approach in the sense of possibility to carry out investigations on the line of the Commission, which involve all power wielding bodies of Moldova, as the tragedy took place on the territory of the security zone. Yet, it is quite important for the people in Tiraspol to be cooperative and to be willing for us to find this truth,’’ Deputy PM for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian said.
The so-called interior ministry of the breakaway Transnistrian Moldovan republic (rmn) in late last week asked for help from Moldova’s Interior Ministry (MAI) in investigating the case of the murder of the civic activist from the Transnistrian region, Oleg Khorzhan. This fact was anticipated on 18 July, when Head of the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova Jānis Mažeiks had a meeting with the leader of the breakaway rmn in Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselsky. At the event, the EU official was informed about the case of violent death of the leader of the opposition from the Transnistrian region, Oleg Khorzhan.
According to Krasnoselsky, a criminal file was opened on this case under the article which envisages murder. ‘’The case of Oleg Khorzhan is under my personal control. All versions are considered or for the moment, some conclusions can be drawn about this crime. We will discover the offence, will identify and name the perpetrators. If needed, we will appeal to Moldova’s Interior Ministry,’’ the alleged president from Tiraspol said at that time.
The leader of the Communists from the Transnistrian region, Oleg Khorzhan, who has earlier been illegally detained by the so-called Tiraspol authorities, on 17 July was discovered shot dead in his own dwelling in a settlement nearby Tiraspol.
