Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in the inauguration of a segment of the express road M3 Chisinau-Giurgiulesti, along with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso. The M3 express road is the most important road which connects the Moldovan capital to Giurgiulesti and is one of the most important gates of access to the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.
„The rehabilitation of the 31 km of road is, first of all, good news for the citizens and carriers – it will allow quicker movements, with lower costs,’’ Maia Sandu said. About 3,500 residents from the Ciumai village, southern Taraclia district and the Burlaceni commune, Cahul district, benefit from this road as well. They now have roads of access to their farmlands, entries in yards, pavements and stops for the public transport. The head of state noted that, due to the new road segment, the transit traffic would avoid these villages and the people would enjoy cleaner air and more silence.
„The new road segment contributes also to our efforts to be in solidarity with Ukraine – the M3 road is part of a European corridor which connects the neighbour country to the network of roads from Romania and ensures the transport of goods. Such infrastructure projects prove that Moldova is a reliable partner, which contributes including to ensuring the food security in the region,’’ the Moldovan president said.
The construction of this road segment was possible due to the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. President Maia Sandu also said that this was a concrete example, through which the money provided by foreign partners is materialized in concrete projects for Moldova.
Those 31 km of road rehabilitated at European standards are added to the 350 km of road made available for used in the last two years.
