Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - Over 20,000 people ill with hepatitis and hepatic cirrhosis in 2022 received compensated medicines worth almost 11 million lei (about 550,000 euros). The National Health Insurances Company (CNAM) today published data to this effect, in the context of marking the World Hepatitis Day.

According to CNAM, the goal of the World Hepatitis Day is to enhance the degree of awareness by the residents about the viral hepatitis – an inflammation of liver caused by the infection with one of the hepatic viruses (A,B, C, D or E). The B and C hepatitis, in particular, are the most wide spread chronic forms of this disease and can trigger severe complications, such as the hepatic cirrhosis or liver cancer.

The removal of chronic hepatitis is possible due to the vaccine against the B hepatitis and medicines for these diseases. The C chronic hepatitis is presently an incurable disease.

In Moldova, the prevention, diagnosing and treatment of hepatitis are covered by the mandatory health insurance (AOAM).

Also, CNAM finances the high-performance investigations at the chronic viral hepatitis and hepatic cirrhosis B, C and D, in order to initiate and carry out the antiviral treatment. For this year, contracts were concluded worth over 10 million lei with those nine providers of high-performance medical services, which provide the concerned services. To carry out these services, the person is to appeal to one of the medical and sanitary institutions, with referral from the infection disease physician. At the hospital, CNAM pays the spending for the cases treated.

Also, over 260,000 lei in 2023 was allocated from CNAM’s fund of prophylaxis measures, meant for purchasing 8,000 bottles of vaccine for the prophylaxis of the B viral hepatitis, in the case of the people from the groups with high risk of infection.
