Chisinau, 30 July /MOLDPRES/ - Over 100 children, including Ukrainian refugees, will benefit from improved educational and medical services and facilities provided by the kindergarten No 4 from Ceadar-Lunga. The kindergarten was renovated with the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to the UNDP, over 740 square metres of the two-storied building were thermally insulated and the façade was painted by a local artist, with children’s participation. Glass windows were set at two earlier unused balconies; they were renovated and transformed into area for sports activities; also, a winter greenhouse was set, where children will be able to cultivate plants. ‘’These interventions overcome the mere optimization of infrastructure, as besides the improvement of the conditions and the well-being for the children and staff, they contribute to the cutting of costs for energy resources and diminution of the impact on the environment,’’ UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Daniela Gasparikova said.

The energy efficiency measures are to reduce the costs for the thermal energy by about 30 per cent.

New furniture and technical equipment for the renovated rooms of medicine and speech therapy were purchased too. The interventions were backed by UNDP with 34,000 dollars and the local public authorities contributed 31,000 dollars. ‘’With the support of UNDP Moldova and its partners, more infrastructure objects were renovated in our region and we appreciate this a lot. Two kindergartens were renovated as well. The conditions in which children spend their childhood and get their education are quite important for their future and should be among the priorities of the authorities of any level,’’ the Ceadar-Lunga mayor, Anatoli Topal, said.

The Ceadar-Lunga mayoralty is backed by the European Union and UNDP, within the Mayoralties for Economic Growth Initiative (M4EG).
