Moldovan parliament ratifies documents seeing increase in assistance on behalf of EU

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will receive additional financial assistance worth 145 million euros on behalf of the European Union. The parliament ratified the draft laws stipulating this today.  

The money will be used to back the authorities’ programme of reforms, in order to help Moldova approach the current external and financial vulnerabilities. The reforms will regard the energy sector, rule of law state, business climate, public administration and the labour market, which will facilitate the advancement of the institutional and governance reforms.     

The financial assistance for Moldova consists of a grant of 45 million euros and a loan worth 100 million euros. They money will be disbursed in two equal installments. The disbursement of the installments will depend on the progress made by Moldova in the implementation of the conditions agreed upon with EU. Thirteen actions are to be carried out and according to the authorities, depending on their fulfillment, the first installment will be disbursed in September 2023 and the second one – in next December.   

On 14 June 2023, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted the Decision on the providing Moldova with additional financial assistance, increasing the overall sum of the assistance by 145 million euros. Presently, a sum amounting to 295 million euros is available for Moldova, of which 75 million euros represent grants and 220 million – loans.
