National agency for prevention, combating of violence against women to be set up in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - A national agency for the prevention and combating of violence against women and domestic violence will be set up in Moldova. The parliament approved a draft law to this effect today.

The Agency will be subordinated to the government. The authority will be provided duties of coordinating the inter-institutional work in the field of prevention and combating of violence against women and domestic violence, of implementing national programmes, of monitoring and assessing public in the sector, of facilitating the cooperation with the civil society, as well as of reporting the enforcement of the Istanbul Convention nationally. A national coordination council in the field of prevention and combating of violence against women and domestic violence will be created under the Agency. It will be made up of representatives of the central authorities, civil society and other sides interested.     

The draft also establishes the delimiting of the powers between the authorities in the field. At the same time, the document proposes the setting up of an inter-ministerial council in the sector of rehabilitation and social protection of offences’ victims under the Labour and Social Protection Ministry. The council’s powers and the organization of its work will be regulated through a regulation approved under the competent minister’s order.  

The law enters into force on the date of its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) and the government in a three-month term will bring its normative acts in line with the law.
