Chisinau, Aug. 1 /MOLDPRES/- The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has removed all import taxes and tariff quotas for seven agricultural products from Moldova.

The facilities will be valid for an initial period of 12 months and will apply to exports of products such as tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, plums, grape juice and cherries.

"The agreement signed in May by Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Steven Fisher and State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization of Moldova Vadim Gumene enters into force today for an initial period of 12 months. This will give Moldovan businesses more opportunities to increase their exports of products such as tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, plums, grape juice and cherries," the British Embassy said.

"The United Kingdom continues to firmly support the Republic of Moldova and do everything possible to support the population, Moldova being the second most affected country by Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine."

In late May, the agreements amending the Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland were signed in Chisinau. The amendments to the agreement provide for the unilateral and temporary elimination, for an initial period of 12 months, of the tariff quotas for the import of agricultural products originating in Moldova on the British market and the temporary elimination of the entry prices for the agricultural products indicated in the document.

Last year, Great Britain ranked 19th among the commercial partners of the Republic of Moldova worldwide, with a share of 0.98% of the total trade value.
