Moldovan foreign affairs minister says at annual Diaspora's Congress Moldova can, deserves to be European

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/ - The tenth edition of the annual Diaspora’s Congress, inaugurated by President Maia Sandu, takes place today, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.  

Along with colleagues of the government and Moldovan ambassadors accredited abroad, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu took part in the ceremony on the opening of this event. He had occasion to speak about Moldova’s progress on the European way and the extension of the consular services meant for the Diaspora Moldovan citizens.     

„I also emphasized that we continuously work, in order to make sure that the needs and concerns of our Diaspora are heard and understood. In the last years, MAEIE along with more institutions have carried out a string of actions to modernize the consular services:  

*    we launched the online schedulings platform, which is presently operational at 32 diplomatic missions;   

*  we increased the number of staff at the diplomatic missions from Paris, London and Berlin and extended the working programme at other missions;

*  we organized more missions of the Public Services Agency (ASP), which totaled 30,000 consular actions in the USA, Canada, Russia and Italy;  

*    on the immediately next period, we will sign an agreement on conversion of driver’s licences with the State of Israel. We are holding negotiations on the same agreement with France, the United Kingdom and Georgia;

*   the E-consulate information system is to be developed, which implies the aligning, synchronization and encompassing of the components of the services provided by more institutions of the state;

*  we will extend our diplomatic presence, through the opening of an Embassy in India and of a Consulate in Chicago,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.   

With each step forward, Moldova strengthens its position as responsible actor in the region, as well as in the international community. Thus, the certainty of a European Moldova, in the near future, becomes stronger and more tangible. Moldova can and deserves to be European.
