National Public Health Agency says number of cases of infection with COVID-19 increases in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - The National Public Health Agency today informed about the registration of 54 cases of COVID-19 in Moldova in the last week, which is 2.16-fold more against the week before.    

According to the quoted source, the percentage of positive samples collected on this period increased from 0.59 per cent to 1.22 per cent. In last July, 95 cases of COVID-19 were recorded, of which two ones in the Transnistrian region, which is by about 9.5 per cent less against June 2023.   

One person died of COVID-19 in July 2023; the death rate in this month was of 0.03 deaths for 100,000 residents, down by 83.3 per cent against the month before.   

According to data put out by the World Health Organization (WHO), 12,620 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded and 107 deaths were reported by the national authorities on the period 31 July – 6 August 2023, which represents a diminution of 35.7 per cent.   

At the same time, the number of COVID-19 cases increased from 501 to 837 in the last week.  

Epidemiologists reiterate that COVID-19 has not disappeared and, taking into account the increased flow at the state border, creation of children’s collectives in early education and education institutions, they remind about the need of the observance of the principal protection measures. Among them, there are the observance of the physical distance of at least one metre, avoiding of crowded places, observance of hands’ hygiene rules, respiratory hygiene; sanitary measures at the place of work, with the airing of closed spaces and appealing to family physicians upon the appearance of the first symptoms of COVID-19 infection (fever, cough, difficult breathing, neck ache, muscle aches).      

ANSP specialists say the vaccination against COVID-19 stays the most efficient way of avoiding serious cases of disease and death.
