Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today gave a speech at a ceremony occasioned by the National Army Day, within which he congratulated the soldiers and officers. ‘’The Army is not only a defence force, but also an expression of our solidarity as nation,’’ the PM said, cited by MOLDPRES.

In his speech, the prime minister said that the army was not only a force of defence, but also an expression of the Moldovans’ solidarity as nation. “This role of yours must be cared, increased and developed. I want to thank your families, the families of the servicemen and civilians from the Defence Ministry, which have their share of sacrifice in this process. Your efforts at home, when military come to their warm home, are important for the country’s defence, as well as for the defence of the rule of law state. We must ascertain that decades of negligence led to the situation that army and the essential role of the army in the state’s edification, as well as in the development of a resilient society were undermined. Yet, as you see, this has changed. You enjoy the support of President Maia Sandu; you enjoy the support of the entire cabinet, so that we enhance the effort of backing and investments in the National Army. As the Army inspires also confidence, protects the authentic democratic values of a state which wants prosperity for its citizens,’’ Dorin Recean said.

The prime minister specified that the experience of other neutral states, such as Switzerland, showed us that a well-equipped army just consolidates the national safety. „And our neutrality is an instrument of foreign policy. We must invest in the Army more and this is what we do. Mr. Minister Nosatii, I want to thank you for your personal attitude and role in bringing as many investments as possible from foreign partners and friends for the National Army. We are in a quite difficult, fluid and risky regional context, when Russia aggressed Ukraine. Due to the Ukrainians and their courage, Moldova is in peace, is in safety. Bur we should not regard this purely and simply; this obliges us to enhance even more our defence capacity, to increase our inter-operability capacity and our exercises in the international missions are so much the more important,’’ Recean added.

„We should always remember that our unity as nation makes us stronger. Together, we can inspire citizens to understand that each of us has potential to change the situation in the country for the better. Your exemplary service for Moldova can model a committed society, in which each person gets involved for the country’s good. This spirit will be our engine in the overcoming of the present crises and challenges. We today celebrate the Army’s role in ensuring the independence and sovereignty of Moldova. We commemorate the sacrifice of the National Army’s veterans and the heroes dead in battles. Congratulations, the Army of Moldova! Congratulations, Moldova!,’’ the PM added.

The National Army marked the 32nd anniversary of its foundation on 3 September. A string of festive events took place in all garrisons on this occasion. The National Army was created on 3 September 1991, under a decree by Moldova’s president.
