Over 15,000 Hasidic Jews transit Moldova

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - Over 15,000 Hasidic Jews transited the territory of Moldova on 11-13 September this year, in their pilgrimage to the Uman city, Ukraine, where they will mark the Jewish New Year.    

On this period, special flows of processing the document of travelers pilgrims were created at the Chisinau International Airport. This allowed avoiding the overlapping of the flows of passengers and, respectively, of the delays in flights.  

Teams of patrol police eased the traffic on the national roads to the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints, Palanca, Tudora and Otaci, in order to avoid traffic jams.   

On the next period, a waiting stage will be prepared nearby the Chisinau International Airport for the efficient management of the increased flow of travelers. The stage is meant for the Hasidic Jews returned from Ukraine, who are to leave Moldova.  

At the same time, tents for verifications were set. To avoid overlaps with the regular flights, routes of direction were established for the passengers of the charter flights at the registration desks, which will be envisaged only for these flights. 

Each year, thousands of Hasidic Jews go to Uman, Ukraine, in order to celebrate Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) and honour the grave of rabbi Nachman. This year, Rosh Hashanah starts on 15 September and will last till 17 September.     

The logistic organization of the trip of pilgrims in Moldova is carried out by the State of Israel, in cooperation with civil society’s organizations from Israel and volunteers.
