CNA confirms CSM member Iulian Muntean's capacity to be accused

Chisinau, 21 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The National Anti-corruption Center (CNA) confirmed today to the Pre-Vetting Commission that CSM member Iulian Muntean is accused in the criminal case, including the fact that these data could not be identified previously due to the lack of recording of this order in the Register of Forensic and Criminological Information of the Information Technology Service of the MAI.

Yesterday, several information sources wrote about the fact that jurist Iulian Muntean, recently appointed by the Parliament as a member of the Superior Council of Magistracy, appears as an accused in a corruption case. The pre-vetting commission, which verified it, claimed that it was not informed about the existence of the case.

For his part, member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), appointed by the Parliament Iulian Muntean came up with a reaction to the information related to his involvement in a criminal case, started on corruption by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office in 2018.

"This so-called case was manufactured at the order of Plahotniuc regime, as a method of intimidating people before the elections. During the period of the captive state, everything was possible: to search you, to intimidate you if you do not agree with the so-called "rules" of the regime or, for example, if you refuse to get involved in the electoral campaign on the part of the Democratic Party" , writes Muntean. In the summer of 2018, he was subjected to a search, as a result of which "nothing illegal was found".

Iulian Muntean claims that after the elections of February 2019, there was no information about the case (it is the case of ASEM lecturers, after which several employees of the institution were put under criminal investigation). "As far as I know, no case out of the 80 has been prosecuted."

"Considering all these circumstances, I can only conclude that the purpose of this information is to intimidate me. As I refused involvement in the 2019 electoral campaign on the part of the Democratic Party and later "accidentally" on the part of Plahotniuc prosecutor's office, I had search at my home, I declare that I will not be intimidated and will continue my mandate of the CSM member, putting the law and the public interest first", the quoted source said.
