Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) today decided the cancellation of the registration of the electoral contenders nominated by the Chance political party at the general local elections due on 5 November this year. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today made statements to this effect following the CSE meeting.

Dorin Recean said that ‘’the decision is taken for reasons of national security, in the conditions of a hybrid war waged by Russia against Moldova.’’

In continuation, the Central Electoral Commission, through the electoral councils of constituency will ensure the immediate informing of all electoral bureaus of the polling stations about the decision approved and will put the seal with the inscription, Withdrawn, in all ballot papers at all electoral contenders on behalf of the Chance political party till the end of the day of 4 November 2023.

PM Dorin Recean noted that ‘’Russia wants to break apart our country, divide it and fuel the separatism and throw us into chaos’’ and ‘’the provocations are systemic; this is not an isolated case.’’ In these conditions, according to the prime minister, ‘’the state is obliged to put an end to such attempts.’’ ‘’Russia presently cannot enter Moldova with tanks, just as it entered Ukraine; yet, instead, it enters with organized crime, dirty money, which is to corrupt the justice, corrupt civil servants, corrupt the political establishment, to misinform,’’ the official said.

Thus, in the last months, the state’s institutions have undertaken more actions, in order to limit the impact of the destabilizing actions, the PM said. ‘’In order to monitor, to limit the impact of these crime rings, 5,000 people daily were in the entire system, all over the country, to document, to prevent, to warn and some 2,500 policemen who were patrolling on streets. As usual, every day, about 700 policemen patrol on streets from Moldova. So, in the last months, we have had constantly an effort to 5,000 people. Over 160 volumes of criminal files were compiled, 70 are sent to court. The state’s institutions have been working at maximal capacity for more months. This is for the first time ever that these things occur at such a wide scale in Moldova,’’ Dorin Recean specified.

General local elections will take place in Moldova on 5 November.
