Moldovan foreign affairs minister has more bilateral meetings with European officials in Brussels

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan diplomacy head, Mihai Popsoi, has had more meetings with European officials on the first day of his working visit to Brussels, among whom European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the secretary general of the European External Action Service, Stefano Sannino, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, Secretary General of the European Parliament Alessandro Chiocchetti.    

In the beginning of the visit, Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi had a meeting with European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.  

„I told Mr. Josep Borrell that Moldova is now more resilient before the challenges to the security due to the European Union’s support. We appreciate the work of the European Union Partnership Mission in Moldova, especially as regards the consolidation of the institutional capacities involved in combating the hybrid threats, as well as the assistance for the defence dimension through the European Peace Facility,’’ Mihai Popsoi said.       

The officials discussed the priorities for the next period, as well as the new opportunities of cooperation on the security and defence dimensions. At the same time, the sides discussed the situation in the Transnistrian region, in the context of the last challenges, as well as the combating of the Russian propaganda.   

Josep Borrell assured of the European Union’s every support on the dimension of the foreign affairs and security, including on the country’s European integration way.  

At the meeting with Stefano Sannino, Minister Popsoi referred to the cooperation in the security sector between Moldova and EU. Thus, the minister highlighted the EU’s Partnership Mission in Moldova and the country’s aligning with the foreign policy of the European Union.  

During the discussion with Olivér Várhelyi, Foreign Affairs Minister Popsoi emphasized the progress made by Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union, the reforms implemented by the country, as well as the security situation in the region. The official also touched upon the holding of the first inter-governmental conference, which will mark the official launch of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to EU. At the meeting with European Parliament Secretary General Alessandro Chiocchetti, the Moldovan diplomacy head expressed gratitude for the support on the way of Moldova’s accession to EU and for the productive dialogue at all levels.   

„I thanked the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement for the constant support provided by the European Union to Moldova. We still have to work much, but we will do our utmost to fulfill all recommendations and to be part of the great family of the European Union as soon as possible,’’ the Moldovan official said.
