
Anniversary exhibition by two fine artists opened in Moldovan capital
Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - The National Art Museum of Moldova today inaugurated an anniversary exhibition titled, Vladimir Ocușco – 160th birthday anniversary and Rostislav Ocușco – 125th birthday anniversary.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, a head of section at the Museum, one of the exhibition’s curator Nicolae Olaru said the exhibition comprised 56 works, of which 36 painting and 20 graphic ones.
Vladimir Ocușco was born in a family of noble stock in the Ashmyany town, Grodno region, on 7 February 1862. He studied painting at the Arts Academy from St. Petersburg during 1880-1886. Vladimir Ocușco settled in Chisinau in 1897, where he taught at the Arts School till the end of this life. He reformed the entire system of Fine Arts, at a request by the administration of Zemstvo from Bessarabia.
Rostislav Ocuşco was born in St. Petersburg on 23 March 1887. The son followed in his father’s footsteps. He studied painting at the Arts School from Chisinau (1922) and the Iasi Pedagogical Institute. He taught drawing at lyceums and gymnasiums from Ackerman, Ismail and Chisinau. He died on 14 January 1966.
The exhibition will be opened till 22 May.
