The Cultural Heritage Museum from Taraclia, which preserves the history and traditions of the region’s Bulgarian community, has been rehabilitated with more than 7.1 million lei through the National European Village Programme. The institution reopened in last May after more years of work and was visited by Culture Minister Dan Suruceanu.

During the visit, the minister explored the museum’s collections and discussed the institution’s activities and development plans with its team.

“This is a place where the history and traditions of Taraclia’s Bulgarian community are preserved. I saw the museum’s collections and discussed with the institution’s team their activities and how they wish to develop further,” said Dan Suruceanu.

According to the minister, the works included renovating the roof, modernizing the heating system and arranging spaces for storing and displaying the collections.

“The museum now has better conditions for preserving and displaying its collections, while the people of Taraclia and visitors to the city can discover the history and traditions of the Bulgarian community here,” said Dan Suruceanu.

The museum of Taraclia preserves and promotes the historical and cultural heritage of Moldova’s Bulgarian community. The institution contributes to promoting local traditions, crafts and customs, while its activities aim to pass them on to younger generations and promote the region’s cultural heritage.

The European Village National Local Development Programme was launched in 2022 and is meant to finance projects proposed by local public authorities, in order to improve infrastructure and public services. Investments are financed through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, with contributions from local budgets, depending on the project. According to data published by the National Office for Regional and Local Development, 888 of the 896 projects approved under the programme’s first edition and the European Village Express initiative had been implemented, according to a report published in early 2025.

Under the second edition of the European Village Programme, 888 local development projects were approved, with a total estimated budget of more than 2.77 billion lei, including contributions from local public authorities. The investments target water supply and sewage networks, educational institutions, nursery groups, administrative buildings, public lighting and cultural and sports infrastructure.
