China is promoting Moldova as a tourist destination for Chinese citizens and aims to boost cultural and youth exchanges between the two countries. China’s Ambassador to Moldova Zhihua Dong has made statements to this effect in an interview given with MOLDPRES.

The diplomat highlighted the tourism potential of Moldova, noting the country’s natural landscapes, wineries and distinctive cultural features.

“Moldova has beautiful landscapes and sincere people, preserves an authentic natural environment and boasts wineries with distinctive specialties and unique tourism resources. China is promoting Moldova as a tourist destination for Chinese citizens, hoping that more and more Chinese people will get closer to Moldova, get to know it and come to love it,” Zhihua Dong said.

The ambassador mentioned more cultural events held in Moldova since the beginning of this year, including the Happy Chinese New Year artistic tour and the Turandot opera performance presented by the National Opera of China.

At the same time, the Chinese Embassy organized the China Day event in Chisinau for the first time. According to the ambassador, thousands of people from Moldova had the opportunity to discover elements of Chinese culture.

“The scope for Moldovan-Chinese cooperation in the field of people-to-people exchanges is broad and the Chinese Embassy will continue to promote reciprocal visits by artistic groups from the two countries and strengthen cultural and youth exchanges,” Zhihua Dong said.

In the interview, the ambassador also highlighted the cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. According to her, since the launch of the third phase of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center project in Moldova, more than 3,000 patients have benefited from its services.

Education is another area in which cooperation is expanding. An increasing number of educational institutions of Moldova are introducing Chinese language courses, the diplomat said.

The Chinese Embassy is also carrying out projects meant to encourage direct interaction between the citizens of the two countries. Recently, the institution, in cooperation with the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, launched the short-film contest, My Story with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

According to Zhihua Dong, registrations for the contest are open until the end of the year. The ambassador encouraged citizens of Moldova to take part in the project.

The Chinese Embassy also publishes monthly quizzes about Chinese culture and realities on its Facebook page.

In 2027, when Moldova and China will mark 35 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, the Embassy plans to organize new activities dedicated to exchanges between the two peoples. They will include an Open Day event at the Chinese Embassy.

At the same time, the ambassador said that a new book of Chinese folk tales translated into Romanian would be launched soon.

“I am confident that, as mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries deepens, Moldovan-Chinese relations and cooperation in various fields will certainly yield increasingly fruitful results,” Zhihua Dong said.
