More than 500 finalists, members of artistic ensembles, and performers from across the country took the stage on Saturday in Parliament Square for the gala concert of the national patriotic music festival-competition “I Sing, Homeland and Nation.” Speaker Igor Grosu described the event as “an evening full of emotion and good music” and expressed his hope that it would become a tradition of the institution.
“An evening full of emotion and good music in Parliament Square,” Igor Grosu wrote in a post following the concert.
According to the Speaker, the more than 500 finalists were selected following a nationwide competition and represented artistic ensembles and performers from various regions of the country.
This year’s gala had the theme “Unity through Culture,” while the artists’ performances were accompanied by the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Andriano Marian.
“This is the second year in which we have hosted this concert, and I hope it becomes a beautiful tradition for Parliament,” Igor Grosu said.
The Speaker also referred to the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Moldova’s independence, marked this year.
“This year, the Republic of Moldova celebrated 35 years of independence. And this evening, through the voices, music, and emotion of those who took the stage, we celebrated our country in the most beautiful way,” Grosu wrote.
At the end of the gala, all participants performed together a song dedicated to love for their country and nation.
The ninth edition of the “I Sing, Homeland and Nation” festival-competition took place throughout August in three stages. The first stage consisted of preliminary selections organized in the country’s districts, followed by regional competitions in Orhei, Soroca, Bălți, Comrat, and Ialoveni. The Gala of Laureates in Parliament Square marked the final stage of the competition.
The festival is organized at the initiative of choir conductor Elena Marian and is part of the National “Access to Culture” Program, funded by the Ministry of Culture. The event was also included in the program of activities organized by Parliament in connection with the International Day of Democracy.
