Moldovan energy regulatory agency introduces two new capacity products to facilitate flows of natural gas to Ukraine

The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) today ruled to introduce two new special capacity products – "Route 2" and "Route 3", aimed at facilitating natural gas flows from Greece to Ukraine through the trans-Balkan infrastructure. They will be available for the period December 2025 – April 2026.

According to ANRE, the new products will contribute to the strengthening of regional energy security, diversification of supply sources, and efficient utilization of transport capacities. Their creation was decided following the request of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) Vestmoldtransgaz and the joint proposal by natural gas transportation system operators from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

The new products will be provided monthly through simultaneous auctions on the RBP platform, using a uniform price algorithm, with the application of tariff cuts for operators in the transited countries. The implementation of these capacity products will allow for increased volumes of gas to be transported through Moldova's transport system, thus creating premises for optimizing the transportation service tariffs for natural gas in the long run, said ANRE.

The today's decision complements previous ANRE decisions from May and October 2025, which approved the proposal of LLC Vestmoldtransgaz to introduce the monthly capacity product "Route 1", meant for the use of interconnection points on the Trans-Balkan pipeline linking the natural gas transportation systems of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

Specifically, in late last May, natural gas transportation system operators (TSOs) from Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine jointly proposed a monthly route product for the clustered firm capacity for the period June-October 2025, aimed at facilitating the transport of natural gas from Greece to Ukraine.

At the same time, at the end of October 2025, ANRE extended the application period of the "Route 1" product by six months, in order to strengthen regional energy security and ensure the supply of natural gas to Ukraine.
