Two persons detained for 72 hours in ammunition smuggling case at Moldovan-Romanian border crossing point
Two persons have been detained for 72 hours in the ammunition smuggling case at the Leuseni–Albita border crossing point. In this case, law-enforcement bodies have created a joint criminal investigation team and seized more important pieces of evidence.
According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS), the truck did not cross the border with Ukraine, and the models of the weapons presented in public do not match those found.
"A criminal investigation has been initiated under the provisions of Article 248, paragraph (7) of the Criminal Code. It concerns the introduction or removal from the territory of Moldova, both through established customs control points and through other than those established for customs control, actions being carried out by hiding in specially prepared or adapted places on this purpose, or by fraudulent use of documents or customs identification means, or by non-declaration or false declaration in customs documents, of weapons and ammunition prohibited in civil circulation or subject to authorization, essential components of firearms, strategic goods, military devices, explosive materials, offenses committed by two or more persons," PCCOCS noted.
In the criminal case, a joint criminal investigation team was created by PCCOCS prosecutors, which, in addition to criminal investigation and investigation officers of the Customs Service, included criminal investigation and investigation officers from the National Investigation Inspectorate and the General Inspectorate of Border Police.
In this case, criminal investigation actions are ongoing.
