Finance Minister on IMF funding: We have preliminary discussions regarding new evaluation mission in December

In December, a new evaluation mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to come to the Republic of Moldova to discuss cooperation plans. Finance Minister Andrian Gavriliță made the statement today. He provided details about the funding provided so far by the IMF.

The Minister emphasized that in 2025, there were no IMF evaluation missions, and as a result, a funding tranche worth approximately 2.9 billion lei was not disbursed. Thus, there was a reduction of 300 million in the state budget from the cost of servicing the debt, which was stipulated in the budget revision project approved today by the Government. Moreover, the authorities ensured that in 2025 there were sufficient financing sources under advantageous conditions.

'In 2025, there were no more IMF evaluation missions. The instalment was not disbursed, but at the same time, it was a year in which we had sufficient funding sources. If you look at the budget revision, we have a reduction of 300 million in the cost of servicing the debt. At the same time, we have preliminary discussions with the IMF, and a mission is expected to come in December to discuss plans and potential cooperation,' stated Gavriliță.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance, for the year 2025, 2.9 billion lei were planned and not disbursed, of which 44.6 million SDR (Special Drawing Rights) for the EFF (Extended Fund Facility) and ECF (Extended Credit Facility) Programs, and 75.5 million SDR for the RSF (Resilience and Sustainability Facility), equivalent to 1.1 billion lei and 1.8 billion lei respectively, at the exchange rate estimated by MDED in March.
