Deputy Prime Minister in talks with Turkmenistan counterpart

The main areas of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Turkmenistan and possibilities for deepening collaboration, especially in the energy sector were analyzed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. 

The two officials had a phone conversation in which Popșoi reconfirmed Moldova's support for Turkmenistan's internationally recognized status of permanent neutrality.

The two officials agreed on organizing bilateral political consultations as a tool for strengthening dialogue and coordination on topics of common interest.

Popșoi expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Turkmenistan, emphasizing that this would contribute to expanding and revitalizing Moldovan-Turkmen relations.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Turkmenistan were established in 1992, based on the Protocol signed on October 5, 1992. Bilateral trade between the Republic of Moldova and Turkmenistan in 2024 reached 5.96 million dollars, with Moldovan exports totaling 2.39 million dollars and imports from Turkmenistan amounting to 3.56 million dollars. The legal framework of Moldovan-Turkmen relations includes 19 agreements. Among the most important are: regarding free trade; concerning reciprocal citizen travel; on cultural collaboration; and avoiding double taxation.
