Moldovan PM has meeting with Greek counterpart
Opportunities for expanding the Moldovan-Greek cooperation and joint initiatives that bring direct benefits to the citizens of both countries have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This is the first visit by a Greek prime minister to Moldova.
The Moldovan PM noted that the Greek side unconditionally supported Moldova's integration process into the European Union and backed the development of a string of key sectors. Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted Greece's contribution to the modernization of the national health system, the launch of direct flights between the two countries and the opening of the Greek embassy in Chisinau. At the same time, the prime minister of Moldova emphasized that citizens of both countries would soon benefit from the mutual conversion of driving licenses.
‘’The partnerships the government is building today are improving the quality of life for Moldovans, whether at home or abroad. We will continue to pursue an active foreign policy, in order to guarantee the European future of Moldova,’’ noted Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The officials discussed cooperation in the energy sector, within the Greece-Bulgaria-Romania-Moldova-Ukraine corridor. This partnership allows the diversification of energy sources and enhances the energy resilience of the entire region. At the same time, Moldova was among the first countries to start importing liquefied natural gas through Greece and Greek investors have been invited to participate in tenders for the development of wind and solar parks in Moldova, with a total capacity of 165 MW.
‘’Greece will continue to contribute to enhancing the energy security of Moldova. At the same time, you can count on our support for the European agenda you are implementing. We will continue to be a firm supporter of your European future, as EU expansion is a strategic investment in the welfare, peace and prosperity of the entire region,’’ declared Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Another successful collaboration, according to officials, concerns the commercial and economic field. Greece has entered the top of 20 commercial partners of Moldova and in 2024, Moldovan exports to Greece increased by 66 per cent. The sides also analyzed cooperation opportunities in IT, agriculture and tourism.
