Drone fragments discovered outside north Moldova settlement
Fragments of a drone today were discovered outside the north Moldova locality of Briceni, approximately 1.7 kilometers from the state border. The discovery was made by a Border Police patrol conducting a border surveillance mission.
The area was immediately cordoned off and specialized services were called to the scene. The competent subdivisions are heading to the location to examine the fragments and establish all circumstances.
The Border Police are monitoring the situation together with the other authorities and are maintaining contact with the competent authorities of Ukraine.
Citizens who hear sounds characteristic of drones or explosions are urged to stay calm and seek shelter in a safe place indoors. The authorities recommend following only information communicated through official channels.
People are warned not to approach any possible debris from aircraft, ammunition, or other unknown objects and to immediately notify the authorities by calling 112.
According to data monitored by the National Army's Air Operations Service, Moldova has recorded 44 incidents involving violations of its airspace since the beginning of 2026. The number of cases is increasing compared with previous years.
Between 2022 and 2026, the airspace of Moldova was violated in 81 cases involving Russian- and Iranian-made missiles and drones, including decoy drones.
According to data by the National Army, four incidents were recorded in 2022, six in 2023, 10 in 2024, 17 in 2025 and 44 cases during the first almost nine months of 2026.
