Italian Senate ratifies social agreement between Moldova and Italy
The Italian Senate today ratified the Social Security Agreement between Moldova and Italy, one month earlier than initially planned. Following the approval by the Senate, the document will be submitted to the Chamber of Deputies for final ratification, where a quick procedure is expected.
The document will allow cumulating the periods of contribution from both countries, facilitating Moldovan citizens’ access to pensions and other social benefits. The agreement will also remove the need of trips to Italy, in order to submit applications for pension and will ensure the payment of pensions directly in Moldova, without additional costs.
„The vote in the Italian Senate brings us one step closer to the enforcement of the bilateral agreement in the social security sector. This means concrete benefits and an enhanced social protection for Moldovan citizens. I thank the Italian friends for this gesture of solidarity and support,’’ Labour and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu said.
The Agreement represents a wide range of social benefits, as well as the old age pension, the pension of disability, which resulted from a disease or a labour accident, the survivor pension.
Moldova’s parliament ratified the Agreement on Social Security between Moldova and Italy on 28 November 2024, after the document had been signed in Rome on 31 October 2024. After the procedures in Italy are over, the Agreement will enter into force, thus facilitating Moldovan citizens’ access to important social insurances rights.
