New local elections to be organized in three settlements from south Moldova
Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has established the date of new polls for the election of local councils. Thus, on 19 May 2024, new local elections will be held for a new composition of the village councils in the settlements Cairaclia, Taraclia district and Chioselia Rusa and Cotovscoe from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
According to CEC, by two contenders for the elections in the each local council were registered in these settlements. As a result of the decision by Moldova’s Commission for Emergency Situations from 4 November 2023 and the cancellation of the registration of the candidates nominated by the Chance Political Party, by one independent candidate for the councilor position were in the ballot papers in the Cairaclia village and Cotovscoe village of the UTA Gagauzia.
In the Chioselia Rusa village from UTA Gagauzia, the electoral contender who remained in the electoral race submitted a list of candidates of only five aspirants to the councilor office. Under the legislation in force, the local council is legally set up, if the mandates of at least two thirds of the number of councilors set under the decision of the electoral body are validated. Thus, CEC found out the impossibility of the creation of a new composition of local councils in these settlements and ruled the holding of new polls.
CEC noted that partial elections for a new composition of the local council would be held also in the Cealic commune, Taraclia district.
