Cahul, Ungheni villages to benefit from EU support for local development
Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/- About 50 development initiatives have been launched in rural communities in Cahul and Ungheni districts, thanks to the assistance of the European Union. Support for local businesses, job creation, sustainable modern tourism services and SMART equipment - are some of the projects due to be carried out this year in 26 villages in the regions.
The villages benefiting from European funding are members of four local action groups, winners of the grant project 2020 conducted by EU4Moldova: Key Regions Program.
In all, 47 micro-development projects will be implemented in the two districts. The new projects will create at least 30 new jobs in the four local action groups.
The implementation of micro-projects will also contribute to the sustainable development of communities by using green solutions, such as LED technology to expand public lighting in several localities, equipping local companies with modern and energy efficient technologies and promoting cycling by installing eco parking.
This is the first call for grants for Cahul and Ungheni, organized by the EU4Moldova: Key Regions Program. The next grant call will be announced in 2022.
The EU4Moldova: Key Regions (2019-2024) program supports smart, green, inclusive and sustainable development in Cahul and Ungheni to provide citizens with a better quality of life. The program id edtimated at 23 million euros, is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Children's Fund.
