Moldovan PM meets World Bank's Country Director for Moldova

Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and World Bank’s Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Satu Kahkonen today discussed the evolution of the Moldova – World Bank relations and the progress made in the implementation of the World Bank Group's Country Partnership Framework (CPF), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The prime minister thanked for the continuous support provided by the World Bank, including an installment worth 33.7 million dollars for the Development Operational Policies, earmarked in last July. Pavel Filip showed confidence in the successful carrying out of the Partnership Strategy till 2021.

The PM said the government had undertaken more actions to ensure economic growth and increase the budget revenues. Thus, in the second quarter of this year, a 5.2–per cent economic growth was recorded and this growth stands at 4.5 for the first half of 2018. At the same time, the average salary on the economy increase by an average of 33 per cent and the average pension on the country exceeded the subsistence minimum for the first time ever.   

These are results of the government’s work, which allowed launching more social programmes, such as the First Home, Good Roads for Moldova or Meal Vouchers. The prime minister expressed determination to carry through the implementation of the reforms underway, including in the justice sector.

The sides also exchanged opinions on a package of laws concerning the amnesty of capital, fiscal reform and support for business.  

Presently, the World Bank’s portfolio in Moldova includes 13 active projects worth a sum of commitments amounting to 327 million dollars. More than one billion dollars has been allocated for about 60 country projects since Moldova joining the World Bank Group in 1992.
