Well-known Moldovan ethnologist passes away

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ – Ethnologist Victor Cirimpei, PhD in philology, researcher at the Philology Institute B.P. Hasdeu of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), died at the age of 79 today.

The sad news was confirmed by his son, Marcel Cirimpei.

Interviewed by agency, director of the Romanian Philology Institute B. P. Hasdeu, Nina Corcinschi, said that she received sadly the news of passing away of the researcher Victor Cirimpei, author of reference studies in the field of Romanian folklore.

Victor Cirimpei was born on 15 February 1940 in village Draganesti, Balti county. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the State University of Moldova (1964). He continued his PhD studies at the M. Gorki in Moscow (1964 – 1967). In 1968 he held the PhD thesis in philology. From the same year he was employed as a scientific researcher in the folklore sector of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), today Institute of Philology (IF).

Victor Cirimpei published more than 130 works, out of which: five monographs, five volumes of research and ethno – folklore materials, 11 articles and studies devoted to Dimitrie Cantemir, etc.
