Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip summoned a meeting on Thursday evening on the danger of floods from heavy rains in Stefan Voda district, especially in the localities of the Dniester River. Because of the rains of the last few days, there is the risk of failure of dams in the area. At the same time, rainfall is expected.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, works on strengthening protection dams have already started in Palanca. The situation is to be assessed and the necessary measures to be taken in the localities of Crocmaz, Răscăieţi Vechi, Olăneşti, Purcari, and Talmaza. According to the officials, Local Emergency Committees have been created in all flood risk villages. The most problematic sector is the dam between the villages of Tudora and Crocmaz, which needs to be strengthened.

The prime minister noted it is very important to prevent risk situations. He ordered creating a crisis cell to manage effectively and coordinate the situation. "It is necessary to intervene together and start as soon as possible the works for fortification of the dams in the localities at risk", he said.

The premier asked to mobilize the forces of the army and carabineers to immediately begin repairing and strengthening the protection dams, so that they can withstand eventual increase in water level. In all, about 300 people will be mobilized: soldiers, carabineers, foresters, builders and more than 10 units of special equipment. This morning, the crisis cell will hold a meeting to plan the interventions and actions to be taken.
