Authorities to back ecological agriculture in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) will back farmers practicing the ecological agriculture and will provide every needed institutional support. Competent minister Georgeta Mincu made statements to this effect at a meeting held by the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) on 25 June.   

“The organic agriculture becomes an important sector for Moldova, which has great advantages of development and represents a viable alternative for the state’s agro-food future, including with the support of the best examples and success stories. Given that the demand on the international market is continuously growing, we must extend the areas and the export of ecological products,” Georgeta Mincu said. 

At the same time, the minister urged the business environment to present to the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry the problems it is facing, noting that the institution she leads was open for providing support to entrepreneurs in the sector.  

For his part, CCI president Sergiu Harea unveiled explanations on the national and international programmes and projects meant to encourage and develop the ecological agriculture sector.  

”Taking into account the fact that the organic agriculture is priority for the revival of the entire farming sector and its inclusion in the local and international value chains, we deem as important to strengthen and encourage the business environment for the development of an advanced, efficient and competitive  technological sector, connected to the international standards,” Sergiu Harea said.   

The conference titled, Organic agriculture – present situation, problems and solutions, was organized in the context of the meetings of the Sectoral Committees under CCI, in order to enhance the process of communication between the business environment and the central authorities, to solve the problems of native entrepreneurs, which are to be submitted to the competent bodies.  

In 2018, 118 producers managing more than 11,000 hectares of organic farmlands were recorded in Moldova. Also, 92 producers certified their goods at national  authorities in charge and 26 farmers got authorizations at international certification organizations.
