37 polling stations to be opened in Moldova for Romanian presidential elections

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/- Romanian citizens can vote at 37 polling stations open in the Republic of Moldova at elections for Romanian president. Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau Daniel Ionita made the statement today.

Romanian citizens who are in the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the reason for their presence in the country, can vote at any polling station organized in Moldova, by registering in the additional electoral lists. This year, for the first time in the Romanian electoral system, the vote abroad will take place over three days. Thus, Romanian citizens from Moldova will be able to vote starting from 8 November. On Friday, polling stations will open at 12.00 and close at 21.00.

On 9 November and 10 November, voting will start at 7.00 and will end at 21.00. “Voters who at 21.00 on Sunday will still be at the polling station and those who will be outside the polling station can exercise their right to vote until 23.59 at the latest, “ he said.

The official noted that Romanian citizens who have chosen to vote by mail can submit special envelopes by post until November 7. He added that at the 10 November elections, it will be possible to vote only on the basis of valid identity documents and the multiple voting shall be punished according to the legislation.

On 10 November, presidential elections will be held in Romania. 14 candidates were registered including current president Klaus Iohannis and former prime minister Viorica Dancila.

According to the Romanian legislation, the president of the country is elected by universal, equal, direct, secret and freely expressed vote and is declared elected the candidate who won, in the first round, the majority of votes. If none of the candidates has won the majority of votes, the runoff is held, with the participation of only the first two candidates who have won the most votes.
