Moldovan researchers to work for creating new varieties, hybrids resistant to unfriendly conditions

Chisinau, 3 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovan researchers will cooperate with colleagues from neighbour countries, in order to work out alternative agriculture systems and for creating new varieties and hybrids. This desideratum was reached at an international conference titled, Directions of modernization of ameliorative and technological researches in cereals and leguminous crops.
At a news conference, the director of the Selectia (Selection) Research Institute for Field Crops, Boris Boincean, said that the cooperation would be deepened with colleagues researchers from neighbour countries, as well as from EU. The main challenge for agriculture remains, yet, the enhancement of the resilience to the global warming, which will continue in the next at least 20-30 years too.
Thus, the researchers’ general goal is to identify solutions to cut expenses and reduce risks, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the agriculture.
The participants in the event stressed that it was necessary to deepen researches in the field of amelioration of the field cereals and leguminous crops, in order to create new varieties and hybrids with high production potential, adapted to the unfriendly conditions of the environment, as well as improvement of the cultivation technologies.
The researchers proposed elaboration of alternative systems of agriculture, including the transition to the ecologically safe production.
